To acknowledge the effects of climate change, MAM 2020 will be a carbon neutral conference for the first time. In partnership with Pangolin Associates and Climate Active, MAM 2020 has been certified Carbon Neutral by the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Energy, Science and Resources. To achieve this bold aim, we have reduced our carbon footprint where possible and have chosen to offset the CO2 emissions produced by return ground and air travel and all food/drinks/electricity consumed by all 451 delegates attending this meeting. We have purchased carbon offsets from: 1, the Aboriginal Carbon Foundation, to support Indigenous social and cultural core benefits in Australia; 2, India Solar to displace electricity generated by thermal power stations feeding the Indian Electricity Grid; 3, REDD+ Project for sustainable forest management and biodiversity monitoring in the Brazilian Amazon state of Amapá. These initiatives were selected due to the conference location in Australia and malaria being endemic in parts of India and Brazil, including Amapá. Pre-Event Public Disclose Statement, click here.
